Ritchie With Ritchie E-mail
Fiona and Jean RitchieJean Ritchie is a treasure of American music, credited with reviving interest in the Appalachian dulcimer.  She is also a songwriter, singer, song collector and author.  We recently spent an hour in her company and this conversational, musical encounter was recorded by guitarist Al Petteway for our radio listeners.  The Ritchie reunion was attended by a warm and intimate audience at Warren Wilson College in North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains, all attending the college's Swannanoa Gathering summer music camp.  Audience members were invited to ask Jean some questions to round out our time together.

Hope you enjoy these exclusive extras from 2008's most special radio program:

Jean answers a question from the audience about her Appalachian dulcimer.

Jean talks about her songwriting, including "The L&N Don't Stop Here Anymore," "Black Waters" and "Blue Diamond Mines."  She also recites and sings "None But One."

Jean offers advice to singers.
